Farmhouse Style Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes

  • 5 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes peeled (optional) and quartered
  • 8 oz butter room temperature
  • 1 cup heavy cream room temperature
  • 3 tsp salt divided
  • 1 tsp pepper


  • Place 1 ½ cups water in Instant Pot
  • Place potatoes in Instant Pot and add 1 tsp salt
  • Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes
  • When cooking cycle is completed, perform quick release
  • Drain remaining water
  • Using a hand masher, carefully mash potatoes
  • Once the potatoes are mashed, add butter and stir carefully to incorporate
  • Put heavy cream, 2 tsp salt, and pepper into the pot. Stir, being careful to not overstir
  • Serve
