Did you know that chocolate milk can be healthy? I’m not talking about the sugar laden, artificially flavored junk that you find in stores.
Lightly sweetened, wholesome chocolate milk made with a few simple ingredients can actually be good for you.
What are the Main Ingredients in Chocolate Milk?
Did you know that over 16 million adults in the United States think that chocolate milk comes from brown cows?! I was astounded when I read that!
I know that my readers are a smarter bunch than that. Since chocolate milk is not actually produced by cows. let’s take a closer look at the actual ingredients in chocolate milk.
Milk is full of protein, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin B, potassium, and vitamin D.
Cocoa powder has theobromine, which helps reduce inflammation and protect from diseases.
Maple syrup is full of antioxidants that are beneficial for the body, and is a simple, wholesome sweetener.
How to Make Chocolate Milk with Cocoa Powder and Maple Syrup
Making chocolate milk with cocoa powder and maple syrup is quite simple, though it does require an extra step to ensure it comes out nice and smooth. Nobody wants to drink clumps of cocoa powder, right?
To make the chocolate milk, simply measure out the ingredients in a large measuring bowl (1 quart or 2 quart). Briskly whisk everything together, working to break up the clumps of cocoa powder.
Place a mesh strainer over another measuring bowl or pitcher. Pour the chocolate milk through the the mesh strainer and into the other bowl. This will help strain any remaining clumps of cocoa powder.
Cold Chocolate Milk Recipe
Chocolate milk is best when served ice cold. If you want to drink your chocolate milk right away, make sure your milk is nice and cold before you start making the chocolate milk.
If you want to chill your chocolate milk after it is made, place it in the refrigerator for two hours or so until it can come down in temperature. Alternately, you could also place the chocolate milk in the freezer for 15 minutes or so to quickly get some nice cold chocolate milk.
If you do not drink it right away, the ingredients will settle at the bottom of the jar. Make sure you give it a good shake before you serve it so that the ingredients can incorporate together again.
